Bert Corona was an historic figure in the United States.  His contributions were numerous and decades old.  He touched the lives of a broad spectrum of our community, and other communities. Yet, Corona’s many contributions have not been sufficiently recognized. Thus, the Bert Corona Commemorative Works has its origin in this endeavor to make known to the world the multitude facets and levels of Corona’s achievements.

The first commemorative recognition breakfast will be held on May 31, 2009 at the renowned Tamayo’s Restaurant in East Los Angeles. Corona would have celebrated his 91st birthday on the date.

The Bert Corona Commemorative Works contemplates including mural projects, the spoken word theater presentations, archival availability, website postings and commentary, photo-gallery collections, street and school naming, educational lecture series, historical reflections, and cultural imaging.

The BCC WORKS has an ambitious projection and we are confident that once the word spreads throughout the country, but especially the Southwest, which were Corona’s main stomping grounds and where his leadership was most forcefully expressed, friends and admirers will come forward to embrace this project.

The founding members of the BCC WORKS appeal to you to make your presence known, attend our first commemorative event, make your first donation, and post your reflections about Bert Corona on the project
